The Bakersfield Community Concert Association presents An Evening of Brass at Rabobank Theater Monday, May 4, 2015. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
Celebrate with Presidio Brass on the eve of Cinco de Mayo. These five young men present “Sounds of the Cinema”, film music with wit, humor and original arrangements that have become the face of a bold new generation of brass entertainment by Presidio Brass. Join the Bakersfield Community Concert Association as we celebrate our 52nd Anniversary Season.
Pre-Concert Music will be performed by Bakersfield Youth Symphony Orchestra (BYSO) Brass Quintet. The BYSO features some of the best young musicians in the area and provides sources for their musical enjoyment. What better example than recently taking 78 musicians, and those who traveled with them, on a playing-tour of the British Isles?
BYSO Brass Quintet members are Gemalene Acupan, Trumpet; Brandon Pitcher, Trumpet; Amy Winter, French Horn; Nichole Bonna, Trombone; and Jeremy Rogers, Tuba. Their coach is trumpeter and BYSO Board Member Steve O'Connor. Steve has performed in a variety of brass ensembles, concert bands, pit orchestras and full orchestras and is in his 40th season with the Bakersfield Symphony Orchestra.
Since forming in 2006, Presidio Brass has rocketed to success as the face of a bold new generation in brass entertainment. By combining a brass quintet, piano and percussion instruments with fresh, original arrangements, their unique sound has become a trademark for the ensemble from San Diego, CA, captivating audiences the world over. Through their hit touring show of Hollywood’s greatest hits, Sounds of the Cinema, these five young men present film music with a good dose of wit and humor that together have become hallmarks of every Presidio Brass performance. Audiences and music critics agree, Sounds of the Cinema is “Two Thumbs Up”, a “Must See!” Presidio Brass has performed and provided educational outreach in over 40 states across the globe, conducted master classes at many of America’s finest colleges and universities, and has been featured on National Public Radio.
Each member of the ensemble began his music career by joining their school’s band program. Inspired by the dedication of their school music teachers, Presidio Brass came together with the primary mission to promote music education and music appreciation in youngsters. For this very reason, performances are often coupled with a master class or school program for which the quintet volunteers their time.
New BCCA members enjoy nine (9) concerts for $80. Students through high school pay $24. Full time college students pay $34. Single concert tickets are $40.
